Improving Hospice Care
for Everyone
Odyssey Supports Nationwide
Initiative to Set Care Standards

The
Odyssey Foundation, a non-profit organization supported by friends and
associates of Odyssey which makes contributions to end-of-life causes
and organizations, has announced a $300,000 contribution to the National
Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), the main professional
association of hospices in the U.S.
The
contribution provides the seed money for a major quality initiative for
all hospices which is being developed by the NHPCO. The quality initiative
is in its early stages, but the NHPCO has already developed short- and
long-term goals to define what excellent service and outstanding clinicial
standards are and it plans to educate hospice consumers about
these standards so that they can make educated decisions about end-of-life
care.
"The
Odyssey Foundations contribution to this very important initiative
illustrates Odysseys commitment to our jointly held belief that
every person living with a life-limiting illness has the right to live
with dignity, without pain, surrounded by compassionate caregivers,"
said Dr. Donald Shumacher, executive director of NHPCO.
